Guestpost: Outsourcing Graphic Design

by Will Harrison on May 9, 2010

Joshua Unseth and my paths crossed about six months ago, in a unique way, and I am grateful to have connected with him. Josh has graciously allowed me to do a guest post on this blog, and I am honored to have the privilege. I run a small marketing company called Web Your NameĀ®. I don’t actively seek clients, though I’m able to stay busy between my marketing company and my fence company.

Graphic art and graphic design are subjects that I have more recently started dabbling in during the last couple years. While I am NOT an expert by any stretch of the imagination, I believe I have Intermediate skills. Artistic ability is something that people are born with and is a gift and talent that I don’t believe is learned. I would love to have an Advanced skill set at some point, but reality is that I am better off sticking to what I know best: SEO and fences. Many people take for granted what technology has enabled us to do in even the last decade. Technology has helped create what is said to be the most sophisticated movies of all time, Avatar. Avatar really took graphic art and digital animation to the highest level possible. We cannot forget the first motion picture that integrated animation and graphic design to levels never imagined. 22 years ago in 1988, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, revolutionized the ability to integrate animation with real world activity.

I have seen what professional graphic designers can do and I will never reach those levels, I don’t have the time for one. Animation and programs such as Poser3D and Flash are not something that I don’t have a desire to learn. Like Joshua Unseth, my forte is search engine optimization, but I can design websites, but stay away from WordPress, because Dreamweaver is my niche. I know the ins and outs of an outdated version Adobe Photoshop. I started using Adobe Photoshop nearly a decade ago. I probably need to move into this century and migrate onto CS4, but I am comfortable using what I have.

Another website that will provide you with amazing graphic images and desktop wallpaper that will blow your mind is Digital Blasphemy, a website that not many people know about. Let me rephrase that, TONS of people know about it, but it is a well kept secret. I don’t think many of my peeps know about it. Did you Josh? These guys that post the images they have designed from scratch on there, make what I am capable of doing look worthless. If you have not heard of Digital Blasphemy, you need to visit their website and see what unreal things can be done with graphic design software. Digital Blasphemy did the first and most important thing that a business can do, they came up with a brilliant name. A catchy name is extremely important for any business or website especially a marketing agency, whose job is to get people to recognize your name.

In the logo below that I designed for a friend of mine, I used a program called Xara 3d to create the word Vision with the ring around it, and then used Photoshop to add the grass, and apply the background with the dirt, ground, and sky colors. This logo is my favorite logo that I have designed.

Lastly, I would like to thank Josh for allowing me to contribute my two cents to his amazing blog that he has built, with a great name. Thanks ‘Big J’ and I hope you will let me contribute to your site again in the future.
